PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide safe and effective medical care to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center patients. To contribute toward the advancement of clinical patient care and outcomes by following care guideline and treatment protocols for infant; children and adolescent patients and to aid in their mental and physical growth and development. May elect to participate in the training and education of residents; fellows and other learners.

The Perinatal Institute at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, is currently seeking a full-time Newborn Hospitalist to focus on newborn care programs at 3 Maternity Centers in the Greater Dayton, Ohio areas.

The Perinatal Institute provides an exciting, innovative, collegial, and collaborative environment dedicated to favorably changing outcomes for newborns and their health. You will be part of one of the largest academic neonatology divisions in the country recently ranked #8 in the United States according to U.S. News & World Report. The hospitalist will be responsible for newborn care at Level I and Level II special care nurseries. This position includes opportunities for mentorship and teaching of medical students, residents in training, fellows, nursing and allied health care professionals, as well as participation in newborn-focused quality improvement and research projects. Work schedules will include day shifts in addition to weekend and holiday rotations.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

•Patient Care
Perform direct patient care of pediatric patients within the scope of the medical license, education and experience. Consistently contributes toward the advancement of clinical patient care and improved outcomes. Examine patients to determine presence of disease and to establish preventive health practices. Determine nature and extent of disease or injury, prescribe and administer medications and immunizations. Perform procedures, collect data, analyze data and make decisions regarding patient care, including initial screening, assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, care, reassessment and discontinuation of care. May formulate, maintain, support, monitor and modify a patient-specific plan for care, treatment and rehabilitation based on the patient's assessment. May also plan and coordinate care, treatment and rehabilitation for discharged patients. If a subspecialist, works to establish a local or regional referral base.

•Effective Communication
Provide for the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred or discharged. Provide data which will contribute to the assessment of a patient's needs, the organization's capability to provide care or treatment and the appropriate level of care.

•Training and Education
Participates in the training and education of medical students, residents, fellows, faculty, community physicians and/or staff. Attends clinical rounds, medical lectures, grand rounds, and other conferences, as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

•Doctor of Medicine OR Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine OR equivalent
•Unrestricted licensed physician
•Approval/credentialing from CCHMC Medical Staff Services Division
•2 years related experience

Preferred:

•Board certification in pediatrics
